Mank (12A)
Wednesday 7 July 7.30pm

An American biographical drama film about screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and his development
of the screenplay for Citizen Kane.
Orson Welles' ground-breaking debut, Citizen Kane, is a cinematic great. The Oscar-winning (Best Cinematography, Best Production Design) Mank explores its corrupted origins, as the glitz and glamour of 1930s Hollywood is re-evaluated through the drunken eyes of the film's screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz - or Mank, as everyone knows him - in his pressured race to finish the script. Shot authentically in black and white to pay homage to 1930s cinema, this indulgent drama offers a chaotic look behind the scenes at a script in progress. Perfectly executing Mank's scathing wit, Gary Oldman offers a brilliant performance as the bedraggled writer, alongside Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins, Arliss Howard, Tom Burke and Charles Dance.
